Working to Stem the Tide

Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and a condition that takes its toll on more than just an individual’s health. Whole families are tormented by Alzheimer’s even if only in the most passing contact. But there are things that can be done to help our aging population, such as working on early memory loss. Our program is designed to help support brain health by providing a proactive path towards combating Dementia.

Join the Navigation Club Today!

The ARK’s “The Navigation Club,” is designed to support brain health through engaging members in five important content areas: socialization, mental agility, physical activity, mindfulness, and nutrition. Anyone wanting to maintain and improve their memory is encouraged to attend.

“According to research in the field of senior health, maintaining optimum brain health can be accomplished by incorporating good habits into your lifestyle,” said Peg Lahmeyer, executive director of The ARK. “Being proactive about brain health can help an individual work against the possibility of developing Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.”

The classes are facilitated by a coordinator who is knowledgeable about memory loss and the maintenance of healthy brain function. Guest speakers will discuss topics having to do with the health and vitality of the brain. While classes will encourage club member participation, there will also be tools provided for practice at home. Each class includes a healthy snack, weekly resources, and recommended readings. Members may request a memory-screening test to establish a baseline measurement
